Email Archiving Solutions Expedites Exchange Upgrade with Stubbing Module

LONDON - The developers of Cryoserver email archiving appliance, Forensic & Compliance Systems, Ltd., is making the burden of migrating from Exchange 2003 to Exchange 2010 easier than ever.

Developed by Microsoft, Exchange is the dominant email server used by organisations all around the world. Its major functions include electronic mail, contacts, calendaring and tasks with user access to the server via Microsoft Outlook. The Exchange 2010 server offers a lot more features and accessibility than 2003, which is the main reason why many organisations are making the switch. At this time, support for Exchange 2003 will cease in April 2014.

"Aside from the threat of support being retracted, many organisations are choosing to upgrade because they are looking to improve workplace productivity," said Robin Bingeman of the email archiving product. "Those that choose to wait to upgrade could be missing out on more than just productivity -- they could be loosing money as well."

Exchange 2010 provides organisations with the following advantages:
  • Larger mailboxes
  • Improved end user functionality
  • Minimized disruptions and downtime thanks to a continuous replication of data

Before organisations can migration from 2003 to 2010 they must first reduce the Exchange store size, as an example - taking their mailbox from 900GB to 100GB. Using Cryoserver's stubbing module, organisations are able to easily and quickly migrate their data with less risk, as Cryoserver keeps the emails in the secure, tamper-evident archive at all times.

Because Cryoserver archives emails from Exchange in real time, organisations can reduce the amount of storage being used by their users by removing the need for them to store emails in the inbox and sent folders. When they need access to a particular email all they have to do is search for it by name, sender/receiver, content, keywords or attachment in the archive. This reduces storage volume and time.

The architecture of the exchange email solution supports storage management features in the mailbox settings or stubbing facility. If a company so chooses, they can eliminate the need for setting limitations and message size restrictions to allow users unlimited data size, while still controlling message store growth.

By implementing Exchange store management practices, organisations will experience a reduction in their email storage by as much as 80 percent. When combined with additional features of Cryoserver, the need for Exchange server backup operations is greatly reduced and often eliminated.

"The reduction in storage volumes being used not only boosts performance of the Exchange server, it also improves end user productivity," the email archiving solutions provider said. "By replacing original email data with CryoLink, attachments can go from 10MB to 15 KB easily through a transparent process that does not affect the end user."

The main benefit for organisations to upgrade is faster access times to old emails, as emails can be retrieved from the archive in seconds.

Cryoserver Clientless Stubbing is a Cryoserver add-on module that can save businesses money and reduce their dependence on disk space by allowing them to re-direct the disks for other purposes, said Bingeman.

"Businesses looking to get the most out of their server and their employees will find upgrading to Exchange 2010 a vitally important task," said Bingeman, an email archiving software expert. "With the help of Cryoserver's stubbing module, companies can easily migrate their data and be up and running on 2010 in a short amount of time."
